Protection Circuit for Arduino

Hi forum,

Does anyone know some simple protection circuit from an unintentional short circuit on Arduino (for example, protect Arduino Uno board when its 5V pin and GND pin are accidentally connected without resisters between them and overcurrent flows)?

I'm wondering if there is a simple way to cope with that situation by just putting some fuse or diode or similar stuff between the VCC and GND.

The USB power line includes a 500 mA "polyfuse" which will shut down the Arduino when it tries to draw more than 500 mA. Removing power will reset the polyfuse. You could put a polyfuse in the Vin circuit to do the same for external power. A 1 Amp fuse should protect the regulator from excessive current.
