So i am as the username would imply a noob with the coding and am having trouble uploading some code to my QT Py 2040 since it keeps saying 'no upload port available but i can't seem to get a port to upload and am not sure if it's a me problem or a problem with ide since the port is supposed to show up after uploading the sketch from looking at this page but i can't do that if no port appears. What am I supposed to do?
Have you installed the boards library as instructed on that page? Have you selected the correct board within the IDE? Did you boot your board to bootloader mode? You shouldn't see a port at all at first and the IDE shouldn't ask for one. I suspect you have the wrong board selected in the IDE. Make sure you have installed the boards library called out on that page, then select the right board from the menu.
Then, when you plug in the board, make sure you are pressing the boot button down to go into bootloader mode. That should be all you need.
(BTW, I LOVE the QT PY boards. But typically I use the ESP32 variety. I just ordered a few more tonight.
I have installed the right board library and have the board selected, as for the bootloader mode, i did try booting it through the IDE since, admittedly i stupidly put the circuit in it's housing and due to a stripped screw can't easily take it out to push the button on the board if i need to do that.
I don't know of another way to get to bootloader mode and you have to do that before you can upload code the first time. Why did you put everything together without first testing your board? You figured everything would work the first time? It never works that way. I would do what you can to get it apart enough to get to the boot button.
in fairness, i basically walked into this project with no idea about this, kinda figured it would be as simple as plug in the board, get the code in, and then be done with it after code trouble shooting. which... yea, learned my lesson on that front. on the bright side got the housing open enough to get to the button.
