i have been looking into building a quadcopter and there are a few things that i dont really understand yet. i have been wondering about the motors and esc and battery compatibility.
so if i have a motor that is say this:
and esc that is this:
and a battery that is this:
i dont understand the amps.. if the motors says it recommends 18a and the esc says 30a.. what will that do to each of the components? will it hurt the motors? or can the motor handle it but prefers 18a?
and if you can see anything else important that i should know can you point it out?
Thanks!
The motor and prop combo will draw current depending on its speed and voltage. Say your full power speed was 8000 rpm for example at 8.4v and the motor draws 10A. The ESC should be rated higher than this normally by a factor of two or even three to be safe.
So a 20A esc would work. If the ESC is rated for a higher current ( 30A, 80A etc.) It would not harm the motor, it would still only draw 10A current. You would just be paying for current handling you do not need and extra weight.
The amount of current that can be pulled from the battery has to be sufficient for the motor draw too. A 5000mAh 20c battery can supposedly deliver 100Amps of current ( on paper ). So this would have no problem delivering power for 4 motors drawing 10A each ( 40 Amps total).
ok thanks and i also have a question about the motors... when i fly a quad what kv would be better for what?
like lift off, carrying more weight, handling, speed, altitude, battery efficiency and other things like this.
