Quote from TV documentary, AKA, captain obvious

"...these people have all died from something that had shortened their lives."

does this suggest that some people die from something that makes their lives longer?

Reminds me of some of the TV ads we get here for non-prescription medications. "Nothing acts faster."
I'll taken nothing then, because it acts faster.

chronic depression can make your life longer and you can die from it.

also, every time i hear it i think of you, travie.

Worry, Worry, Worry

Add some Arduino controlled lights to your drum set, then build a sampled-sound playback system that you trigger with strike pads.

travis_farmer:
Hmmm... could be interesting. could be exceptionally distracting during practice, but the idea defiantly has merit. I saw a video of Blue Man Group once. i think they had something similar with the lights. I could use a MIDI shield for arduino to listen for specific notes from my drum set, and trigger some lights... may even be interesting if when i eventually make my own drum triggers, i could use some sort of translucent drum shell, with lights inside... maybe they could even be velocity sensitive, so the lights react differently with a harder or softer hit.

the sampled-sound playback could be a later project, but this sure got the creative juices flowing

Thanks @CrossRoads

You could do the reverse for practicing. Light up the drum that you need to hit next. Start it slow and gradually speed it up as you improve. You could also vary the brightness or colour of the light to tell you how hard to hit the drum.

How can you tell when a drummer is at your front door ?

just thought of something that may help me practice. if i can make an adjustable metronome,

Hi,
Had this bit of test gear across the work bench yesterday.
It is a dissolved solids meter, just calibrated ohms meter, that measures water conductivity.
The funny bit is what one of the warnings/instructions printed INSIDE the removable cover states.

And its made in the Good Old United States Of Ameriku.

Tom....

Cheap piezo disk can pick up drum strikes for Arduino but you seem to have a talent for spending over budget.

It's winter. Have you added any lights inside of your place? Did you get vitamin D?

I agree with gofersmoke, you could use some of the big vitamin D.

But, I'm more of a multivitamin myself.

travis_farmer:
is there some reason you don't like me? seems like you enjoy raking me through the coals.

I'm trying to get you to think about the $1200 in the hole dilemma you posted not so long ago.
I would rather see you not having that problem.
Ever see a little kid that wants to touch the wood stove and cries when stopped from burning itself?

I'm going to have to quit reading your posts. I might care and try to save you some pain == don't like you.

You still might find a piezo circuit to trigger lights easily done, wouldn't even need a controller.

Piezos would be for regular drums or drum pad or whatever else to bang on, even the front door.
Yes, you can have lights flash when someone knocks on the door and the lights can be downstairs.

Heck, I don't even peel potatoes. Just wash em and nuke em.
Sure they'd be better boiled then baked but that's more like work.
