R4 WiFi, All the Typical Problems

I have the typical R4 WiFi board. It has com port errors, won't upload any sketches, and cooks it self when plugged in. I spent the last three days digging up post on these problems and trying their solutions... Nothing Worked.

My question is, Has Arduino solved these problems and updated new boards?
Or, If I buy another one will I just be throwing away more money?

I am not aware of any problems affecting that board.
In your collection of screens I see a windows issue (typical device mgr) and a message re the cloud. It wasn't clear that this is a cloud issue.
Perhaps start by reading and following the pinned post 'How to get the most from the forum'. Meanwhile, I will get out my R4 and see if it works with the blink sketch.

Please provide posts to specific threads where this is evident.

If you have not read the instructions then you will have problems. Just for chuckles I went and grabbed my R4 that has been rattling around the bottom of my parts bin and plugged in the USB-C cable, and loaded the WiFiWebServer sketch. Below are screen grabs of the log file and the browser client.

Thought I had made it pretty clear in my post. I've done nothing but read about and try to solve the R4 issues for the last THREE DAYS! What does loading a web server have to do with a board that won't load anything at all?????

Why won't anyone ANSWER my question. IS ARDUINO STILL SELLING DEFECTIVE R4 BOARDS OR DID THEY FIX THEM?????

According to post #5 - @sonofcy 's R4 board works fine. It means that not all R4 boards are defective.

Probably your board is not defective too. The cause of your problems, I think, your lack of experience.

Hi @ecks32. I'm going to ask you to provide the full verbose output from an upload attempt using Arduino IDE.

Please do this:

  1. If you have any Arduino Cloud windows open in your browser, close them.
    You can definitely use the board with Arduino Cloud, and I'll be happy to help you with that. However, it is possible for Arduino Cloud and Arduino IDE to interfere with each other's access to the serial port of the UNO R4 WiFi board, so it is best to eliminate all potential complications from the system at this point in the troubleshooting process.
  2. Start Arduino IDE.
  3. Open the "Blink" example in Arduino IDE.
  4. Select File > Preferences... (or Arduino IDE > Settings... for macOS users) from the Arduino IDE menus.
    The "Preferences" dialog will open.
  5. Uncheck the box next to Show verbose output during: compile in the "Preferences" dialog.
  6. Check the box next to Show verbose output during: ☐ upload.
  7. Click the "OK" button.
    The "Preferences" dialog will close.
  8. Attempt an upload, as you did before.
  9. Wait for the upload to fail.
  10. You will see an "Upload error: ..." notification at the bottom right corner of the Arduino IDE window. Click the "COPY ERROR MESSAGES" button on that notification.
  11. Open a reply here on this forum topic by clicking the "Reply" button.
  12. Click the <CODE/> icon on the post composer toolbar.
    This will add the forum's code block markup (```) to your reply to make sure the error messages are correctly formatted.
  13. Press the Ctrl+V keyboard shortcut (Command+V for macOS users).
    This will paste the error output from the upload into the code block.
  14. Move the cursor outside of the code block markup before you add any additional text to your reply.
  15. Click the "Reply" button to publish the post.

From what you have described, I would say YES.

Do you mean that the board is getting particularly hot? If so, do you have anything connected to the R4? Did the board run the default code when it was new (there should be an animation running on the LED matrix similar to a tetris game).

If the board is defective, you should be able to return it for replacement.

I did not ask him or anyone to troubleshoot, investigate, or solve anything. I asked if anyone knows if the problems are fixed in current boards. That's all the information you need from me.

You admit I was able to use the board in a normal way, then go on to claim it won't load anything.

I purchased my R4 the first day they were available, and it has never given me any trouble.
It is EXTREMELY rare for any problem reported here to be anything other than user error, and even rarer (I am not aware of any) that the Arduino board is at fault. There are occasionally clones that have some sort of flaw, but that is not Arduino's fault.

The answer is NO because there are NO problems in the past or current boards. All your arguments are unsubstantiated and self-serving. If you can provide a link to another user experiencing a problem that was resolved as Arduino's fault with the board, it would give you credibility. Right now, you sound like a loon. My apologies to Loons everywhere.

YES, all problems are fixed in current boards.

I may have missed it, but what proof is there that the board is faulty?

Why don't you ask Arduino sales or customer support?

OP tells us it's overheating, nothing more. We don't even know what was connected at the time.
