Radar

I dont suppose anybody knows of radar or radar like sensors? and how to use them?

Radar? Like Parallax PING))) ?

Like Parallax PING)))

No, that's sonar.

You used to be able to buy X-band Doppler units for motion detection (Mullard, IIRC), but I haven't seen them in years.

What sort of range / application did you have in mind?

What i want to do is to detect things at about a meter, (any thing, people, soft furnishings, furnature, glass, hedges, fences etc.) Cant use infra-red as it would go through glass, cant use sonar as it would be asorbed by the soft furnishings?? so thought radar.

Could use a conbination of both infra red and ultra sonics I guess

Cant use infra-red as it would go through glass

Short wavelengtth IR goes through glass OK.
It is the longer wavelengths that PIRs work at that don't work too well.

Hi,

Re your comment on X-band motion detectors - you can get them from Active Robots: see "Object detection" section on the triple-W dot active-robots dot com site (sorry, unable to paste a URL 'cos this is my first post & the site won't let me!)

Okay, let's see if it lets me post a URL now ;-))
