Random Blank Line LCD 16x2

Hi guys !

I'm new in the comunity of Arduino. I've bought an Uno for a week now and it's really rocks.

However I have a problem with my 16x2 LCD, indeed, sometimes it works very well (I can print what I want) but sometimes a pixel line doesn't appear on the first row of the LCD (even not contrasted, just not appearing like a corner of the LCD screen....). Sometimes a reset solve the problem but sometimes not... I checked contacts and wires many many times and they are ok.

One times, I unplugged the LCD and plugged it wrong (I shifted it, so every connections were shifted too) and when I plugged it good, I see for th first time the problem. Any link ? Now, a good way to solve the problem is to shift the LCD of two pins (it doesn't work, obviously), don't ask me why, but when I plug it good after that, it works and the blank line disappears...

I don't understand, is it an hardware problem with the LCD, problem with my breadboard, software problem ?

Thank you for your reply !

(Sorry for my poor English, i'm french :))

I think that when you connected your LCD incorrectly it did some damage to the internal components. Apparently this damage was not serious enough to completely destroy the device but it is most likely not operating within specifications any more. This could create the situation where sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.

Thank you for your reply.

I agree with you but it's very strange, how many people before had plugged wrong their LCD?... It this component so sensitive ? ...
