Have been using the IDE for other boards fine. This time I tried to use it with Raspberry Pi PICO. I followed the installation and no errors.
When I plug in my board it doesnt show up as a COM port in device manager. It does show up in Other devices claiming the driver is not installed. 1st time plug in Windows indicated it installed successfully.
Meant to add this is on a Windows 10 PC
Did you do the bit where it said after the first load of your program:-
After the first upload, this should not be necessary as the arduino-pico core has auto-reset support. Select the appropriate serial port shown in the Arduino Tools->Port->Serial Port menu once (this setting will stick and does not need to be touched for multiple uploads). This selection allows the auto-reset tool to identify the proper device to reset. Them hit the upload button and your sketch should upload and run.

This was after installing then uninstalling Arduino Mbed OS2
Note when the pico is plugged in and with no subsequent ports present in Device manager the IDE also does not show the ports menu item.
I don't like pages that force you to accept cookies. So I am unable to see if it is done right. Sorry.
Maybe I should start over and reinstall using the process you were referring to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have not had trouble after following these instructions. Note when first plugging a Pico into an Arduino you have to be holding down the reset button during when you insert it into the USB. This might need a friend. Those without friends might need a switch arrangement in the USB lead.
