RC plane controlled flight

Hi,

I want to build a RC plane (fixed wing). I haven't decided how many motors I want it to have; I am open to suggestions.

I want the plane to fly level and straight and at the same altitude when the transmitter sticks are left untouched. When there is an input on the sticks I want the plane to respond to the input in a controlled manner; just like a 4 rotor drone (like the ones made by DJI).

For the altitude I'm thinking I could use a barometer. And for the leveled flight I could use two PID control systems (one for pitch and one for roll). However I am not sure how to have the plane fly straight.

Any advice about any of the components of creating this aircraft is appreciated.

Thanks.

Take a look at Ardupilot.

Build a conventional model plane, either from scratch or a kit, and learn to fly and land with standard Radio Control first.

Vist RCGroups where there are heaps of forums for all types of RC plane.

Agree - having flight levelling etc will cause all sorts of grief when it comes to aerobatics .

My idea is to have a gunship aircraft. I want to mount an airsoft gun on it. One person flies; the other is the gunner. FliteTest on youtube made a very similar build Here. So for the most part the aircraft will be flying in circles around a target.

Have a look at what is commercially available - for quads , helicopters and aircraft .

The advice on building and flying a conventional model first is good - you will have to take off and land !
