RE-INSTALLING ARDUINO IDE

HI,

On my "old" but well-running XP I decided to create a new project.

So I started the IDE.

To my surprise I cound not enter any characters at all. No matter wher I place the cursor. Each keypress results in a BEEP.

Deleted it all, downloaded a new version of the ARD.IDE. (ver 1 8.9) Installed it. Same ERROR. No chars but a lot of BEEPS. !!

Started thinking. Maybe my ATMEL STUDIO 5.0 has something to do with it.

Deleted ATMEL STUDIO 5.0 . (EVERYTHING). Even cleaned the few remaining items in the REGISTER (using Regedit).

Then deleted ARD.IDE again. Downloaded and reinstalled agian (ver 1.8.9).

To my surprise the keyboard error still remained. (An original Uno card was insert after driver installation) . Still a BEEP for each keypress. But this mysterious Error occurs only in (my ?) ARD. IDE.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong here - and better how to correct it ?

(and Where can I eventually) download a former version ? )

Thanks / Kris

Try doing this:

  • File > Preferences
  • Uncheck the box next to "Use external editor".
  • Click the "OK" button.

Thanks at lot .
