Read data from energy meter (ISKRE ME172) using RS485 and arduino uno

I have an ISKRA ME172 electric meter, an RS485 Modbus converter, and an Arduino. I connected the Arduino pins to the converter as follows:
Arduino uno >- RS485
RX>-TX
TX>-RX
GND>-GND
VCC>-VCC
I connected the meter to the transformer as follows:
RS485 >- Energy meter iskra ME172
A>-A
B>-B
I used many codes and did not reach a solution. Any help and thanks in advance
Note (I flip RX and TX when trying any code, meaning the connection is sometimes symmetrical and sometimes reversed)

Which RS485 module are you using? Which Arduino are you using?

Is it an auto switching RS485 module?

You should use different pins on your UNO as Rx & Tx are used to communicate with the IDE serial monitor.

With an UNO, you need a software serial port setup to use a couple of pins (NOT 0 & 1) to communicate with the energy meter.

for testing and monitoring the RS485 network I would suggest you get a USB-RS485 dongle for a PC - I tend to use a FTDI usb-rs485-we-1800-bt but low cost dongles are available on Ebay etc
see post connecting-npk-sensor-to-arduino-pro-mini

+1 for a USB-RS485 dongle.

Not only will it help with debugging, but it opens up the possibility of using the manufacturers demo software (if they have any) as well as using one of the free modbus tools to communicate with your device to discover the exact comms messages you need without continual burn & learn cycles on your Arduino.
