read data from IO 0 / RXD arduino 101

Hi,

On Arduino 101, how do you read data from IO 0 / RXD?

What is the function called? Serial.read() is for the console.

Thanks

I don't know anything about the 101 but on a Leonardo Pins 0 and 1 are Serial1

Serial.read() is for the console.

No, it is for whatever is connect to the USB-to-serial converter chip, regardless of whether or not that is the Serial Monitor application.

Thanks PaulS, any idea how to use IO 0 / RXD? Serial1.Read() doesn't work in the latest IDE?

Thanks

Have you tried Serial.read() ?

Edited to refer to the correct Serial port - apologies for any confusion

Or Serial1.read()?

PaulS:
Or Serial1.read()?

Much more sensible - I will correct my Reply #4

Yes - I have Serial1.read() is not supported in the current IDE when you select arduino 101 board.

Because it has only one serial port - Serial.

That rather makes a nonsense of your Reply #5 :slight_smile:

Well, yeah. Should have read the whole thread.

OP: POST YOUR CODE and a schematic. What is sending the serial data? How is the data getting to the Arduino?

I suspect you need to create an extra serial port with SoftwareSerial and use that to communicate with your sensor thereby leaving the USB connection free for communication with your PC.

You need to post a link to the datasheet for the sensor.

Also make a drawing showing how everything is connected and post a photo of the drawing.

Much simpler all around may be to get a Mega which has 3 spare hardware serial ports and is much more familiar to people here. I have never even seen a 101.
