Thanks for the schematic. The 1M0 resistors are pointless. They should be 4k7. But at least the MISO would still produce a readable signal.
Your photos do NOT look like 1M0. They are possibly 4k7 or 47k. It is difficult to read the colour bands.
If you are unsure of the values, read them with a DMM.
You said that Bodmer's code worked. So I am assuming that the wiring might not be ideal but it is not locking up the chip.
