Reading optical encoder QEDS 5886

I have a few optical encoders that came with some motors but cant seem to find any pin wiring description anywhere. I did ask Avago but they would not give the info out even though these are obsolete. I am wondering if anyone has used this model before and has the PIN out information.

failing that perhaps some suggestion on how I might probe around to figure it out

Have a look at the HEDS-5050 encoder that looks like a very similar thing. This is a HP device and yours looks like a far East "copy".
