Reading the serial port

Someone gave me a url that was a how to avoid missing characters sent to the Arduino, but now I can't find the post. Anyone know anything about that, I believe it was a page on arduino.cc?
Thanks

Serial data is as reliable as the connection and the sending software. The only thing you need to worry about is reading data faster than it arrives, which is not hard to do.

You'll need to provide more of a clue than you have so far.

The problem is that there are a huge variety of ways to miss a character. We're not sure which you mean.

If what is being sent is a data packet, the a common thing to do is to use an end of data packet marker.

The examples in serial input basics are simple and reliable
