Yeah I've seen both urls. Both relatively useless. 
I've found that my problem is probably because I'm not stepping the voltage down from 5v to 3.3v but I am feeding the card 3.3v power.
That must be why its talking weirdly.
If you want to do this then its probably best to get this board:
It seems to do the voltage switching its self and it has a nice socket which beats my floppy drive socket.
