Well, I downloaded the below file, made a folder called arduinoand put the zip file in it. I unzipped the file using winzip and it made the appropriate sub folders in the folder I made. In the folder I made there is an arduino-1.0 folder, in which is arduino.exe. double click on the arduino.exe and the IDE should start. Not sure what you are trying to do with an .inf file.

thanks! but when i double click on the arduino.exe file, I get a quick splash of the logo, then nothing. that's the same thing i was getting before. i can't seem to get to the ide window from there.

Sounds like a corrupted file or similar. I'd just start over.

Make sure you don't take Arduino.exe out of that folder and put it on your desktop or something before you run it... keep it in that folder.

Thanks Guys! i was able to get it to run by searching for the file. i found several files of"arduino" one of them worked. so now i can proceed. thanks for the quick and great help. a great forum! chas

The .inf file is the driver used by Vista. It won't (and shouldn't) open the IDE.
