Receiver implementation

Hi,

As part of a university project I'm hoping to develop a 'drone' detector idea that relies of RF detection. I was hoping to target two frequency ranges, 433MHz and the ISM 2.4GHz band to detect telemetry by using Arduino receivers.

Would it be possible to detect a standard drones RF chatter or would I instead need an RX TX pair of arduino modules to demonstrate functionality?

Note: At this early stage I'm simply looking to detect the presence of a drone/source.

You mean the same bands that are used by Bluetooth, WiFi, video senders and car keyfob remotes?

If you receive a signal, how will you know it is from a drone?

Both bands are heavily used by lots of devices other than drones, and decent receivers divide each band into hundreds of individual channels, with many different possible types of communication happening in each channel.

And some military radar.
