ok i'm new to arduino but i'm fairly good with hardwear already. i was wondering if the barrel jack of the arduino uno is able to recharge(obviously rechargible) batteries? i know that it is possible to create a circut to recharge using the Vin on it but i would just like to save the trouble of doing so as well the barrel jack would be more robust.
I'm not sure what you mean by
williamkoepp:
i know that it is possible to create a circut to recharge using the Vin
However, the barrel jack is connected to the same node as the Vin pin.
barrel jack is connected top Vin with a diode in between.
You could get a 2nd barrel jack, make yourself a Y-cable, and bring the 2nd jack to your recharging circuit.
Minimal cost for materials, like $1.49 for a panel mount jack, $2 for a 5.5/2.1 cable, etc.
What size battery do you want to charge - LiPo's?
I didn't explain my post very well but solved my own problem. I was looking more for a way to say charge batteries connected to the barrel jack while the Arduino was hooked up via USB. I just ended up doing some wiring from the 3v3 over to the rechargeables and it worked well enough.
Keep in mind that the on-board 3V3 regulator is only rated for 50mA of current.
