Any covering on the ultrasonic transmitter and receiver will alter the performance.

Make a stylish pattern like other sonic sensors... I imagine the grid openings and thickness are large enough to let the sound out and reflection back in.
Or use the JSN-SR04T, which has a somewhat more ...stylish... stock appearance:
