Reed switch as sole power switch

Hi everyone!

Couldn´t find a post about this but if there already is one, please feel free to guide me to it and delete this one.

So I´m building a prototype of a "smart"thermos flask. I will fit a board (probably huzzah esp32), temperature sensor and a battery inside the thermos cap and the idea is to detect if the flask is properly closed or not and then thell the temperature of contents on a display fitted to the top of the cap.

to my problem:
I´m hoping to detect the (is flask properly closed or not) with a reed switch and a magnet. If open - no power from battery to huzzah. I know that reed switches are not meant to be used like this but is there a way I could do this for example with a mosfet or something ?

Appreciate all the answers, let me know if you cant understand my question I can try to explain it better

I can see you are into experimenting, so why not experiment and see if your reed switch will work for you?

I see no reason why this would not work. However small reed switches are sensitive to peak current and can easily weld closed. A common issue is a capacitive load across the switch such that then the switch closes the capacitor supplies enough current to weld the reed leaves. Be aware of the load and the switch rating and you should be in good shape.
