reel to reel tape machine interface

Hello everyone,

I am trying to build remote control for my reel to reel, so i can control it from my computer. I managed to get the play and the stop button to work, but when I hook up the rewind it doesn't play anymore it rewinds no matter if I press play or rewind.
Maybe one of you has an idea. Thanks in advance.

Of course sorry. I am using TIP 122 transistors. I hope you can see all you need to see otherwise I am very happy to comment on it.

Hi, I see you are using a socket in the side of the tape player, is this the socket used for the cord version of the remote.
If it is ,do you have it or a diagram.
Also a diagram of your adrunio, power supply and connections to the socket would help, post a CAD or picture of hand drawn circuit.

I would not be connecting the arduino the way you have, I'd have used small relays so as to provide isolation between the arduino and the tape deck.

Tom...

Aside from power, the transistors provide some degree of isolation between them. As long as the voltage source is a reasonably clean +5v, I would personally have no qualms with this setup. Although, the well-being of the deck strikes me as something to be concerned about. At least more than a cheap (inexpensive) dev board. So be careful in there!

On that note... What do you know about the push-button controls? Are they simply grounding a particular signal when the button is pressed?
