Relay-Help

Hi all,
I want to use a relay with Arduino to control a circuit which uses a variable VDC and ADC of 40V and 4Amp. Most of the time the current is about 0.5Amp.

Anyone can recommend me a relay.
Thanks

Something like this should do the job: Beefcake Relay Control Kit

Thank you for the answer.

I am quite new and I may not be understanding properly the specifications.

On the label features (in the link you copy) is written “Voltage Rating: 220VAC/28VDC”. The rating refers to the maximum Voltage of my circuit that is going to be controled by the the relay? Does it refer to the voltage used to control the relay?

Other basic question: In terms of energy efficiency is it better to use a relay or a transistor?

Thanks

5V for the coil.

If you click on the documents tab you'll see a link to the relay datasheet. The '005' in the part number tells you it's a 5V coil. But, it does take more than the 40mA that the Arduino can directly supply and that's why you need the transistor to drive it.

It is only rated for 28VDC so if you are switching 40VDC you should look for something else. (It should "work" since it's rated for 220VAC but it will have a shortened life.)
