This makes ask about the type of motor. Do they have brushes? More than likely the problem is the change in current, not voltage.

Why do you think so? Voltage drop due to high current draw (internal battery resistance plus resistance of contacts and wires) may be the reason.

Increased current causes stronger magnetic fields, which may upset a magnetometer.
Dropped voltage tends to result in resets.

But OP does NOT use a magnetometer. I think it is a great flaw of the current hypothesis :wink:
