Reprogramming 16u2 chip on DUE board

Hi guys

I am trying to make a handbreak for my sim racing setup. I will order aurduino MINI but i want to make it work until it arrives with my DUE board. So i need to reprogramm my 16u2 chip to make it HID device. I was googling but most information i am findig is for UNO. My question is is it possible to reprogram 16u2 with Atmel flip software or is ot using ISP device my only option. I have NANO and knockoff UNO (without 16u2 unfortunatly) so i am able to make ISP device but if I do not need to go that routh i would rather not

does have Mini same atmega16u2 chip?
does have Mini convenient interface for connecting to PC/PS/XBOX ?
why Mini?

i mean your try with DUE give you no experience useful for Mini.
use Flip to reprogramming 16u2.
