I would like to share my latest GPS project. I don't see a suitable category.
There is an existing category which is described as being for GPS here:
You can post it to 'Project discussion and Showcase' for this time being.
That is a good point. The category I mentioned is more focused on asking questions.
This category is better for showing off a finished project:
It doesn't have a GPS-specific subcategory, but I don't see that the volume of such topics warrants a dedicated "GPS Project Gallery" category.
I have been using that category for three years. Only because it is the only one that has "GPS" in its title. Well, somewhere in its subtitle anyway.
It isn't the place to display a completed project.
Which sub-category do you suggest I post a GPS project in 'Project discussion and Showcase' ?
Exhibition / Gallery in the community section seems like the right place.
I've been discussing GPS issues in the Arduino forum for three years. There is no dedicated category for GPS. In "Networks" it is just an afterthought.
Posts & discussions on GPS appear in five different categories.
Perhaps it is because these discussions are all over the place, it does not appear to management that it is a strong individual topic.
Would you like to ask the users if they would like a dedicated GPS category?
Thanks, wildbill. That might be the go.
And if we add one then they will be in six categories!
I have previously expressed my opinion that there are already too many categories and I am still of that opinion. Creating more and more categories and sub-categories will only make things worse
I had hoped that when we switched to Discourse there would be an opportunity to rationalise the forum categories but there was too much going on with the actual migration for that to happen and I can't see it happening now
Well, there is already this modest little GPS development in the Exhibition Gallery : ATtiny1614 based GPS satellite clock using built-in RTC
Choosing a category from the many subcategories seems difficult, with the dropdown-scrollbox that only shows maybe 2 entries, and the subcategory doesn't seem to show. I see just the partial category name and differing descriptions:
I just learned that one can edit a post's Title and Category with the pencil icon. And that interface is much better:
Ummm.... not sure because I don't know what your projects actually does. If it is not a finished product or a robot, then I think the sub-category 'Home automation and networked objects' can be considered, though not perfect.
However, if you have already made a PCB of your project, I think you can post that to PCBWay Community:Your Home for PCB,Electrical Engineering & Electronics Community
People share many GPS, GSM and GPRS based PCB designs there with details.
Well, it isn't a PCB based project. It's based on a 3D printed housing.
I don't see any suitable sub-category in there. To put it into a sub-category with a vague connection just seems to be hiding it.
The exhibition Gallery I think is the only suitable place.
Thanks for the input.
