rj45 socket leds are not glowing

hi,can anybody clear my doubt,when i connected w5200 ethernet sheild to my arduino due and connected usb to system,the leds of rj45 socket of ethernet sheild was not glowing.what is thet mean whether hardware problem or i have to do any software changes.

Maybe a bad CAT5 cable? Do you have the ethernet shield connected to a router? Are the router LEDs lit?
