So i have bought 5 of these engines with various speeds. They were used in a XYZ gantry pick and place robot. I am a mechanical engineer so i had calculated the minimum required torque needed for this application. The motors specified torque was 5-10 times more than the required and i made sure that the duty cycle was below 10 % of the time... in other words, the engines were overkill!
I tuned them to make sure they were not oscillating. The autotune function made them oscillate, so i tuned them to be more sloppy!
When i received the 5 motors, one of them was already defect and would not run in my testbench. Another one had the screw heads sticking out of the mounting plane, so i had to take it apart and countersink it, before it could be installed.
Once installed they were a bit noisy, way more noisy than stepper motors! And when they are standing still they make this annoying sinus tone which will drive you mad (both with load and without load!)
I then assembled my gantry and it ran for maybe a total of 2 hours with very little movement, when one of the motors released the magic smoke!
Suffice to say that i am not overly impressed by these motors reliability. This machine has to be reliable, so now i have to disassemble it and rewire the machine for stepper motors with Gecko drive (These are very reliable).
I have not yet contacted Robokits, so this is not a post to smear their name or store. They may give me a refund for the two defect motors, but the cost of sending them from Denmark to India will equal this return. This is a post to warn people of using these motors in any applications were reliability is of concern. The motors are simply to cheap... you get what you pay for :~
