Hello everyone. I am deeply fascinated with this emerging tech of 3d printing houses, and it looks like only a few in the world has these large 3d printers and all everything are still in R&D. I have no coding background nor robotics but i can see that its a blend of these 2 aspects to create this machine. I hope I can build a DIY 3d printer machine for a single house storey someday by understanding everyone's ideas and inputs.
Objective: To understand how to build a large scale 3d printer machine for houses
In my observation, these large scale 3d printers has this extruder that moves xyz in a continuos movement.
-
What programming software should I learn to program a "wheel" or "set of wheels" that carries the "extruder" to move in XYZ?
-
What is it in these wheels that respond and execute the program that I just made?
Am I asking the right questions?
Please let me know and thank you
The very first thing to keep in mind throughout is SAFETY.
These are large, and hence heavy, devices, that even moving slowly can produce fatal injuries.
If you're not a competent programmer, become one, before you even consider building such a machine.
Thank you. Yes, I am have no programming background but I think I am highly motivated to learn.
I think you also need to study chemistry and material science. The US military has experimented with building 3d printed buildings using concrete.

As far as the software is concerned, there will not be a great difference between a small scale 3D printer and the house-sized version. The major problem with any type of wheeled extruder mechanism is detecting and correcting for positional inaccuracies, and with the house-sized version detection of obstacles and safety concerns (someone will wander onto your construction site and do their best to get themselves killed).
I would suspect NASA has a great interest in this also, as well as anyone else contemplating building off-world.
