This isn't so much about how to interface with a sensor, more what sensors would be useful to have.
I am rebuilding my wifitank, and this time makes a proper bumper for it. So far I got a ping sensor in the front and back, and a proximity sensor at each corner in a 45 degree angle.

Depend on what you want to sense, wouldn't it? As you don't mention what you want to sense, or what the robot is to do, it's hard to recommend sensors that can do that.

It is a robot, it got wheels, it is a bumper...
That is what I got... If I knew everything I would do with it, I wouldn't have a problem finding the right sensors for it. But what I need is suggestions to what to more put there. I might not need them now, but could be fun to play around with later, and maybe add an extra function to it.
All it can do with the sensors it got on right now, is to detect if there are something close to it, and then stop before running into it.
