Does anyone know if RS-485 transceivers still work if connected incorrectly, ie A->B and B->A.
I'm hoping that the data will simply be inverted (which can be dealt with in software) but don't know if that is the case and have no hardware to try.
The way I read the specs on the MAX485, swapping A/B would simply invert the TTL signal.
Thanks gardner, that's how I see it as well and I've got similar feedback over at AVRfreaks so I'm about to decide that is indeed how things work.
Why do I want to know? I want to have network Nodes that are polarity independent and as long as I get a valid signal in either polarity I can handle it by inverting my data.
