Well hello. My first post here and a parallel thread to a thread on DIYLightAnimation.com where I am debugging a Lynx EtherDongle and Lynx Express. As part of my testing process, I built a boarduino/dmxshield breadboard and loaded the DmxSimple library. I was able to connect the circuit chip to my Lynx Express DMX dimmer board and successfully execute a repeating brightness ramp on DMX channels 1-16...
...until the RS485 chip overheated and failed. A second chip did the same thing.
I'm fairly certain I have the circuit built and powered properly but perhaps you can point out something I missed.

I attached;
- a photo of my breadboard circuit (without the DMX cable attached), and;
- a photo of the circuit driving the Lynx Express DMX dimmer (via an Ethernet DMX cable.)
The RS485 chip is the Maxim MAX485.
The voltage drop across the power rails is 4.3v while operational.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any feedback.
Michael
