Running wires at long distances

Hey guys, I am doing a large scale project that is going to be in a 50' by 50' vicinity. Im just wondering what kind of wires can carry 12v, hook into Arduino, and travel long distances up to 50ft? I know its a noob question but i've got to start somewhere. Thanks!

More information required:

Are you carrying power through the wires? If so what current?
Are you sending signals that distance? If so what speed/bandwidth do you want to have?

In general for power higher voltages are much more efficient (this is why mains voltages are
in the hundreds of volts). The speed of signals over distance degrades unless a transmission
line is used (ethernet and RS485 are examples of transmission line signalling).

At some point for signalling the cost of the wire can become more than the cost of wireless
links at each node...

A 50' extension cord from walmart should fit those specs.

Maybe not if you want to transmit 12V DC power with any amount of current.
