When using a HC05 i always have a voltage divider on the (3.3V) HC05 RX - 5V Arduino line so that the RX input only ever sees 3.3V. This is for an Uno, but would work for a 5V Nano. I run the HC05 from a software serial port. Of course the pins can be changed.
