(My board is a duemilanove ATMega168)
I'm trying to use an external power supply (because of the servos) but still need the serial communication through the ubs cable.
I'm afraid of just plug it in and see how it works because I might burn it.
Is it ok?
I am no expert but, i did use external power and usb together while trying to debug a lot, nothing happened so far.
The duemilanove has a special circuit in it which swaps between the USB power and external power. Basically if it see an external supply has been attached it will take it's power from that and switch out the USB power.
So no need to worry.
