Same shit, different day.. Arduino Duemilanove w/ ATMEGA328P-PU

My setup:
The board described in the topic subject, 12VDC/1A power supply
Desktop w/ Win7 Pro x64
Laptop w/ Win7 Home x64
Arduino 0022 software
Latest FTDI drivers installed

I got this error all of a sudden:

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51

This was after I hooked the board onto the power supply, my 2 servos started acting up inna way they never did and 2 motors went berserk :|.
Nighttime here so it scared the shit out of me for a sec, unplugged it from the 12V at the moment I was joined again with my inner peace. Was going to try some code, tried to upload and test some shit: NOTHING (except from the error).

Searched every corner of this forum until I registered out of frustration.
I tried:

  • rebooting IDE/LAPTOP/PC
  • uploading with everything unhooked (Blink sample, no success
  • resetting board w/ & w/o controller, rx/tx jumpered (didn't get feedback from monitor w/ controller, did so w/o, no prob)
  • burning a new bootloader (FAIL)
  • hitting reset button after compiling's been done

When (trying to) upload(ing), the Rx flashes very faint and the green LED doesn't repond to the reset switch, it just keeps on burning baby!
Would it be likely that my controller is fried? (Then I would really hate myself for staying up all night for this when i could've done the same with some ace porno >:( )

Would it be likely that my controller is fried?

The would be my guess.

Try a loop-back test...

hm ok, but i already tried using that very thread..

btdt my friend, no success.

The symptoms indicate that the board itself is probably OK but the processor is very likely toast.

So,

received 2 new ATmega328's. Installed one of them, tried to burn a bootloader, same f-ing error...
kinda bugs me tbh..

What's going on with my board? You can't tell me there isn't anyone using an arduino that has encountered the same problem!

How to install a bootloader when you don't have a processor with a bootloader installed...

Get a real ISP. Read the tutorials for them on the manufacturer's website to make sure it works on your system. This is especially important if you run the 64bit versions of winblows. Some are really cheap (usbtiny).
