I never said you misunderstood anything. You are asking us to make informed decisions without the datasheet. My question was intended to imply that since YOU are the person asking for answers, you should be the person posting the datasheet. It has nothing to do with whether you are experienced or not , UNLESS you THINK that because WE are experienced that WE have MEMORIZED the datasheet for EVERY IC EVER MADE. (maybe we have , but that is beside the point) .
When you have read page 5 of the datasheet for the ic that you want to use AND posted it as an attachment using the "Additional Options " button below, we would be happy to help you. First you have to do your DUE DILIGENCE.
When you have done that , maybe you can tell me what is wrong with this statement:
but in order to open/close the CMOS gates i need to pull the control pins from +5v down to -5v.

Look for the words:
"BIDIRECTIONAL SIGNAL TRANSMISSION VIA DIGITAL CONTROL LOGIC"
