Hi. im new on this website, i have a new project which involves an arduino, i want to make a box that makes it automatically close when it detects rain and when it's night. this project involves a solar power system that allows it to work every day, can you all give your views on this project?
Sounds like a great idea
Go for it.
I am betting you have never made a box with a lid! Start there first!
Paul
Welcome to computer programming.
The box makes what close? How does a box close it?
Does it close if it's rainy during the day? OR do you mean it closes at night AND it closes if it detects rain?
Does it ever open? Under what conditions?
How does the box open it?

Some of these responses is why it terrifies me to ask a question on these forums.
I especially expect better of an amateur radio operator...you are no "Elmer" sir/ms.
We are all newbies at some point.
shaaleng,
Your question is far too open ended and probably listed in the wrong category, but your project is very doable using an Arduino. You'll need an Arduino, a servo to open and close the lid of the box, a rain sensor of some kind, and a photo diode to detect light. Nobody will write the code for you, and your project will probably not get done in a weekend if you've never played with Arduino before, but a little research and perseverance you will get there. Good Luck!
And if you wanted to make a box to do something, where would you begin?
Paul
Paul,
I know you're better than this so I'll withhold judgement. The post could very well be a joke, but who is to know? Cheers and 73's.

I assume you mean the box lid or cover closes. That is easy, but the exact mechanism to operate the lid would depend on the size and weight of the lid, and how it has to move in order to close (sliding or rotating on a hinge).
Please post a drawing of the box, with dimensions, showing the open and closed states.
Yes, I can see your point. I will cheerfully apologize for myself and for others for making points we were trying to in what might be taken as a mean and unpleasnt manner.
I think we only trying help. The OP's description is vague; s/he will have bad luck meaning no success being vague with those tots and intolerant final arbiters: the compiler and the run time behaviour.
Again, Apple Polly Loggies. I will flog myself with a damp trout in proportion to the offense possibly taken.
To @shaaleng don't worry, it will all be easy when it isn't hard anymore.

I see too many posts that do not address the actual OP's question, and I am guilty of doing that from time to time.
One of the things most of us do is ASK QUESTIONS to have the OP THINK.
also, there are forum rules, guidelines and introductory posts that we would hope someone would read before posting.
Personally, I think a simple multiple quess test would help people understand the very basic requirements for this forum. pass the test, you would be allowed to post on the forum.
back to this thread :
we all can guess there is a box,
and a lid
and some form of motor
and some form of rain sensor
and some form of light sensor
so,
sensor detects the rain and closes the box.
sensor detects no light, closes box
The sensor detects no rain, other sensor detects light
opens box.
so, the question to the OP:
what part are you having problems with ?
And my guess was that the OP wanted to construct a box to be able to do all the things you listed, but ALL depend on that imaginary box.

I wrote this: How to get the best out of this forum to help people new to this forum get the best out of it, without getting lots of (un)helpful comments. Please read it, then when you understand what we need to best help you go back and edit your question. You should, hopefully, then get some more helpful help.
Thank you.
And my guess is I don't do guessing. So many times an OP will eventually getting around to spilling, and it is amazing how far off some plausible guesses might have been.
For whatever reason.
Admittedly this is one where meeting the OP more than halfway would have probably worked out, it with time so short I am not surprised by myself not doing.
