screen becoming black when I launch arduino.exe

I've just received my new Duemilanove card, but I have a serious problem with the arduino software on my laptop. When I run arduino.exe, the screen becomes completly black, and I can't do anything, even stoping the program isn't possible as I can't see anything. I must reboot the computer. What is very strange is that the mouse cursor is still visible, and the mouse movements are correctly reported on the screen.

When I try the software on my desktop PC, I have no problem at all... Very curious. :frowning:

Does anyone have an idea of what is going on ?

Can you run another java applications?

Yes the laptup runs other Java apps flawlessly. Weird...

It is Vista? are you tried disabling the windows compositor?:

run an elevated command prompt (cmd +CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER from start menu search) then "sc stop uxsms"
