I don't know how to hook up ping sensor with sd card module occupying the 5v pin slot for portable datalogging.

someone was suggesting icsp pins....but I don't know if I need a special icsp cable (I am a newbie to arduino)

I appreciate any help.

If I understand you correctly you need to access the 5V supply for your sensor.

Pin 2 of the ICSP header is connected to the 5V bus and so you can use this to power your sensor by simply using a female header socket. If you cant find a such a socket you can buy a strip of female headers and carefully cut one off, or alternatively look for an old scrapped PC use one of the wires that connects the case usb sockets, power and reset switches etc etc to the motherboard, and use that.
