I am currently looking for a Step-Up (Boost) Converter IC in a DIP and with high efficiency.
It should provide an Output Voltage of 3.3v or 5v and Maximum Current Output of around 20ma.
The Input Voltage ranges from 1.5v to 1v (AA battery).
Furthermore it would be really nice if it would not require any external components.
I have been searching for quite some time now and cannot really find an IC like this.
I don't think you'll find that as a integrated circuit without external components... Every (well, almost every) boost convertor out there relies on energy storage in an inductor to boost the voltage (hence the name). The inductors usually have a ferrite core, something that cannot be made with silicon and semiconductors.
Hopefully somebody will prove me wrong but in the mean time, have you considered the SOT-23/89 sized packages that need only three external components (inductor, cap, diode) ?
