Blink'n'Dim protool is a fast-growing innovation in LED lighting control.
In its simplest form, lights can be controlled with just an ordinary switch. Blink the switch off briefly, then back on. The resulting "blink command" causes bright lights to gradually dim, or dim lights to gradually brighten. A second blink command selects the desired brightness.
Blink'n'Dim's advantages include versatile control from multiple locations, elimination of dimmer compatibility charts, and facilitation of network control without requiring network control. It is completely compatible with traditional wiring. At the hardware level, any network controlled switch can be used.
There is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to offer slick voice control and smartphone interfaces for Blink'n'Dim protocol. Ideally, these interfaces would employ a sonoff type newtorked switch. The switch should be able to measure its load current and implement commands such as "set theater lights to 20%". If load current measurement is not available, other techniques can be used.
0-10V Blink'n'Dim Adapters are commercially available to control 0-10V dimmable luminaires. They are available from my company for distribution.
Pre-programmed microprocessors, also available from my company, can detect blink commands and generate a PWM dimming control signal. Such processors are used in 0-10V Blink'n'Dim Adapters. They are applicable in other luminaires, and even individual light bulbs. Each processor is provided with license to use the intellectual property it implements.
