Seeking advice on transmitting gps data wirelessly

Hi All

I would like to have your advice on transmitting gps data of flying quadrotor to my computer. I can put an Arduino board on my quad and one for my computer if it is needed. I think xbee is one of the answer for it. Thank for comments in advance.

How much data? How often? What is the impact of data loss? How much are you willing to pay?

There is no one best answer. The questions above illustrate where you need to make compromises.

I ll only be using coordinates. 40 meters of range on a open field would be satisfactory for me. I can afford up to 500 dolars.

I'm partial to the XBees. Series 1 models, two of them, a XBee shield (not the L shaped version), and a USB Explorer can be had for about $100. Very reliable, with a 100 meter range through walls. Line of sight will be even higher. If you can't see your copter, the GPS data that you did get will allow you to find the wreckage.
