You can edit the Arduino preferences.txt file and add a line that says: upload=verbose
The less fiddly method...
• Start the Arduino IDE
• Click File then Preferences
• Ensure Show verbose output during upload is checked
• Click OK
• Load your sketch
• Upload
There is no need to shutdown or restart the IDE
