Sending encoder output over RF24

I want to control a a servo with a rotary encoder over an RF24 but I am having trouble. I have the standard code for the rotary encoder counter, but when I send the counter integer over the transmitter, the receiver does not read it right for some reason. Does anyone have experience with this and know how to make it wok. Thanks

Make the transmitter to receiver link work. The encoder is nor responsible for the trouble.
