Sensor errors with make:it ir transmitter

I am using that nifty IR decoder program and it works great for all my remotes EXCEPT for the radio shack robotics remote control. The serial monitor gives me different 4digit numbers each time I press one of the eight micro switch buttons. I have tried different IR receivers but no luck. I am using Arduino uno and several off the shelf ir receivers. Any ideas as to what I can do? I am kinda new to this forum and community .

Radio Shack Make:It Robot Remote Control

I got one of these a few years ago and it sat in the drawer until I had a project for it. It uses its own IR codes so I had to figure out how to capture those and use them in a sketch. It's a fun little control and sturdy, and since it uses real buttons instead of membrane buttons, it is a bit easier to use.
