Sensor for diagnosing sitting on a bus chair.

Hello all.
I want a sensor that can detect when a person sits on a bus chair , Actually I don't want a simple switch because it can't detect very good and can not cover whole space of chair.
Does somebody have any suggestion.?

I think I have some problem with them,Because I don't have access to power source and I want to use a 12 v battery , so I need a low power consumption switch.
What do you think about that?

A pressure mat consumes no power until it is activated, then it consumes bugger all power.

You mean when somebody sits ,the pressure mat is activated,right?
