Sensor for dog location

Hello All,

I am looking for recommendation for the part required for my project. I wish to be ALERTED when my dog wonders off to far away from the house. Is this doable? Thanks 8)

Don't they sell those at pet stores ?

If they have them for kids they would have them for dogs, since dogs are some people's kids. XD

I was kind of hoping for an Arduino Solution. Low cost. :open_mouth: Maybe Xbee? or RF?

Not to impugn your construction skills, but anything one lashes together with an Arduino and some other parts is likely to be bulky and unreliable, especially if attached to a collar on an active dog. Then there is the issue of batteries and how long they will last.

Good point. I guess LilyPad are just to delicate then?

The main problem with reliability are the wires between modules, which eventually break if flexed. It is best to have everything on one circuit board.

wireless module on you and one on your dog.

continuous handshake. send a signal, receive, send it back.

no signal ? dog is our of range.
you can have both units beep if the signal fails.
then have the output power increase for a new, more powerful signal, then get a direction of that new signal so you know where the K9 went.

Yes was thinking along those lines. RF modules or Xbee or ?
