Sensor Guidance

Hello Everyone,

I am currently trying to stabilize a tall tower by using a RC Servo motor to correct the tower at all times to keep the tower within +- 0.065 Degrees. I understand this is a tight measurement, and looking for the right way to sense the angle very accurately. The tower is on a moving, robotic base and will always stay parallel to gravity. The tower is pinned and can only move left or right. I was wanting to place a MPU-6050 accelerometer/gyro combo to measure the angle at the top of the tower, and essentially make a balancing robot.

Any thoughts on accuracy and if the application is possible?


Strain gauges are another solution for measuring the deviation of the tower. At least they can provide faster response, in case this will be a problem with the MPU-6050.
