Sensor to detect certain bright colors?

I'm trying to create a flashbang system to spice up playing airsoft with friends. I am going to create multiple pairs of glasses with a switchable film on them (can switch between opaque and clear), and I want to be able to throw a light-emitting orb that can activate the film and temporarily disable their vision. I don't want the orb to be particularly bright, and should just be able to work on LEDS. Does anyone know a sensor that could detect this? Or is this even possible?

Find "Jiri Praus" for your light emitting orb. He does great work.

The polarizing view screen you seem to be talking about is used on modern welder helmets (face shield, head mount, polarizing screen).
